Welcome, Dear Readers!

Saturday
20 March 2010
1:00pm - 4:00pm
Join us for an afternoon of Austen and the arts. In a vibrant, multimedia presentation at our next meeting, the president of JASNA National, Marsha Huff, will demonstrate how Jane Austen and artists such as Vermeer used comparable techniques to convey the interior life of their subjects.
Following Marsha, we are pleased to be hosting Kirke Mecham, a local composer of opera, who will disucuss the process he used to adapt Pride and Prejudice. Faculty of the SFSU opera program will perform excerpts from this production. For more details, see our calendar
Northern California hosts a large, active and enthusiastic group of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA). We meet in the San Francisco area quarterly in March, June, September and December. At each meeting we strive to present a mix of information -- from pure discussion of the novels, to details of Jane Austen's life, to the historical and cultural context in which she lived and worked.
Anyone with an interest in Jane Austen's works, life, and times is welcome to attend. Our members come from all walks of life. Whether you're a doctorial candidate working on a thesis on Jane's Chawton years or you just can't stop watching all 12 hours of the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice, you'll meet kindred spirits here.
To become a member of our Northern California group, you must also join at the national level. Member benefits include invitations to meetings and events, the opportunity to meet and network with fellow Janeites, and access to our audio-visual circulating libraries. We would love to meet you, and hope to see you soon!
