“All the Noise about ‘Dead Silence!’ A Fresh Look at Austen and Slavery”

June 5, 2022 @ 1:00 pm 2:30 pm PDT

Collins Hemingway will trace the likely development of Austen’s attitudes on slavery, particularly the influence of her evangelical brother Frank. He will also give an overview of issues plus a detailed analysis of critical passages in Mansfield Park while challenging the “received opinion” of major critics.
